Bamboo Star Playground, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Built 2017
Building Trust designed a bamboo sensory playground along with COLE + Partners for Cambodian non-profit BraveHearts. The design is a stunning lotus flower shaped bamboo structure that will enable the children to spend much more time outdoors stimulating their senses.

BraveHearts is a program dedicated to providing the extra care and resources that go beyond just survival for orphaned Cambodian children with special needs. Their mission is to provide the support, resources, and interactions to nurture and improve the quality and experience of their life. The new playground provides a fantastic educational and sensory play space for BraveHearts students. All the resources for playground building, the structure and creating the sensory activities were locally sourced in Cambodia, to ensure this project will be totally sustainable in the years to come.

The open 6 pointed star is a reference to the lotus flowers which are common in the fields surrounding the school. Constructed from Bamboo that was locally sourced and treated the project was a tool for training local contractors in a sustainable building technique as well as promoting the material to others.
